How we approach couples counselling

Couples counselling is not about assigning blame. It is about understanding the patterns between you and changing them together.

Chloe helps you slow down the cycles that leave you both stuck, hear each other more clearly, and rebuild connection. Premarital work is welcome too.

The goal is not a particular outcome. It is a clearer, more honest place to decide what you both want.

Couples therapy: FAQ

Do both partners need to come to every session?

Usually yes, since the work happens between the two of you. There are times a solo session makes sense, and we will talk openly about when that helps and when it does not.

What if we are not sure the relationship can be saved?

That is a common place to start. Couples therapy is not about forcing one outcome. It is about understanding what is happening so you can make a clear, honest decision together.

Do you offer premarital counselling?

Yes. Working on communication, expectations, and conflict before marriage is one of the most useful things a couple can do. It is easier to build good patterns than to undo hard ones.

Is couples therapy covered by insurance in Alberta?

Sessions are with Chloe Machielse, a Registered Psychologist, so they are eligible for reimbursement under most extended health plans that cover psychologists. You pay at the time of session and receive a receipt to submit to your insurer. Check your plan for psychologist coverage and any annual limit.
