Compassionate and unhurriedIn person and virtual

Grief is love with nowhere to go

Grief can follow the death of someone you love, but it also comes with other losses that are just as real. The end of a relationship, a change in health, a life that did not turn out the way you imagined, or a version of yourself you have had to let go. There is no right way to grieve and no schedule you are failing to keep. Whatever you feel is allowed here.

Supporting people through loss and grief is a particular focus of Chloe's practice. Therapy does not try to move you past your grief. It walks with you through it, helping you make meaning, hold on to what mattered, and slowly rebuild a life that has room for both the loss and the living.

Healing does not mean forgetting. It means carrying them with you more gently.

You might be experiencing

  • Waves of sadness that arrive without warning
  • Numbness, or feeling strangely nothing at all
  • Guilt, anger, or relief that surprises you
  • Trouble sleeping, eating, or concentrating
  • Feeling isolated, as if others have moved on
  • Grief that arrives before a loss, or long after it
  • Loss beyond death, including relationships and identity

How we approach grief counselling

There is no schedule for grief and no right way to do it. Grief counselling meets you where you are, whenever you are ready.

Chloe offers a compassionate space to carry the loss, without pressure to move on or get over it. We work at the pace your grief needs, on your terms.

The goal is not to erase the loss. It is to carry it in a way that leaves room for your life to keep going.

Grief and loss therapy: FAQ

Is there a right time to start grief therapy?

There is no schedule for grief. Some people come in the first weeks, some years later when it resurfaces. Whenever it feels heavy, that is a fine time to start.

Will therapy make me get over the loss?

The goal is not to erase the loss or move on from it. It is to carry it in a way that leaves room for your life to keep going. Grief changes shape, it does not simply disappear.

What kinds of loss do you work with?

The death of someone close, and also losses that grief does not always get named for: a relationship, your health, a pregnancy, a role, or a future you expected.

Is grief and loss therapy covered by insurance in Alberta?

Sessions are with Chloe Machielse, a Registered Psychologist, so they are eligible for reimbursement under most extended health plans that cover psychologists. You pay at the time of session and receive a receipt to submit to your insurer. Check your plan for psychologist coverage and any annual limit.
