What Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, said as the word act, takes a different angle from approaches that try to change or get rid of difficult thoughts. Instead, ACT helps you change your relationship with those thoughts, so they hold less power, while you move toward the life you actually want.

Acceptance and values

ACT is built on two pillars. The first is acceptance, learning to make room for uncomfortable thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them, since the struggle itself often causes the most suffering. The second is commitment, clarifying what truly matters to you and taking action guided by those values, even when anxiety or doubt tag along.

What ACT can help with

ACT is effective for anxiety, chronic stress, low mood, and the sense of being stuck. It is especially freeing for people who have spent a lot of energy trying to think their way out of hard feelings without lasting relief.

What to expect

Together you will practise noticing thoughts without being ruled by them, and reconnect with the values that make life meaningful. Chloe uses ACT to help clients stop waiting to feel better before they start living well. A free consultation is a good first step.
